What joy to wake up with a mountainous chill in the air...totally refreshing, coffee on the motel steps this morning with the old jumper on offered a much needed jolt. What a pleasure!
The Thumb was out a good 3 hours in a cracking spot, however the vibe roadside from the passing drivers seemed distant, the strong culture of car pooling on top of the constant stream of cheap mini buses seems to have rendered hitch hiking a novelty here in Columbia.
Medellin our target is a massive City, I wanted to get it out the way pronto, with the Thumb out by 6pm, bound for Cali 800km South.
'Will' needed to stay in Medellin for a few days now, being a Gold Prospector, some potential sights have been lined up for him to visit.
For the sake of 80km and myself vehemently not wanting to spend a another night in a massive City, we jumped on a mini bus. 3hrs this bad boy took, the winding roads stepping in again. Medellin was hit around 6pm. After a quick Cervezas and farewell to Will, I immediately began to ride the local buses to the outskirts of the City. Absolutely nothing about this was fun... On and on this City went, the buses going round and round the houses again, the veins were up on the side of the head...8pm and still I wasn't sure I was even close to the outskirts. I threw the towel in and got off in a built up area where I thought there might be a Hotel. Walking and walking some more, I found the only place. It was expensive and hideous...the room was a hovel. I walked the streets to clear the brain, on hope a nice meal would bring me round. I found nothing but deep fried tosh and chicken to choose from. I promptly headed for bed, the mood was low.
All hail Will for his 3 day stint on the road with the Thumb, we captured some cracking footage, thank you very much squire.
