Day 58 In the summer of 2012 the Thumb managed to kick off its journey from Perth/Australia to the London Olympics aboard the last sailing boat leaving the whole west coast of Oz, a 20 day voyage across the Indian Ocean bound for the CoCos Islands. Shadow was a 38ft long Norwegian beauty designed by Colin Archer, manned solely by the magnificent Peter. In short this venture became an epic baptism of fire. I was a complete novice caught up in Neptune's wrath… it all resulted in 5 days of hell with Life rescue having to haul us back to Land. Once back in Blighty no one seemed at all interested in this part of the story… It confused me a little, it really was a Hollywood scenario, I couldn't quite get my head around what was going on during and to this day, still struggle to fathom how close Peter and I came to too seeing the Big man. It is The thumbs final evening on land before heading across the Pacific via a much sturdier vessel... 'Arthur Maersk'. Looking back on those tempestuous events I want to say thank you and dedicate this Post to Peter and Shadow.
It is also Yana's last evening with the Thumb, her camera work and general presence has been marvellous…especially during the awful period when we heard about Jim. Your kindness and understanding I will never forget dear and I thank you for being there x sorry we couldn't have a proper final evening, because -
As ever head quarters of The magic Thumb- being the mind, was over run with things to do. We are now sure that The Thumb will arrive in Seattle! so we have to get our Camera man/lady there to liaise with the Thumb on the other side, we have a Crowd funding Campaign launching on Wednesday, Yana needs to get back to Vladivostok, my dear Mother needs a lift to Leicester on Thursday for Jims funeral, (thank you so much Fairley)…and a Fire-wire cable has to be found. Still no joy there! etc etc….
Peter the Great...a moment of concern captured aboard Shadow!
