Finally the Thumb hits its natural habitat, a local bus ride dropped us on the outskirts of Cartagena, what an enormous city! After 2hrs of going round the houses we finally arrive at a Gaselorina. Its been nearly 30 days since 'Carlos the legend of the universe' dropped us in Panama City... the distance covered is nothing but minuscule. It is time to cover some serious ground!
The thumb was held aloft for about 2 hours before being dropped 40km down the road, the reaches of the city still lingered as we plonked ourselves at some weird intersection. A growing ensemble of youth on motorbikes began to surround us, far from threatening...about 20 of them just circled us curiously all posturing with chests puffed out, we were unable to communicate. It took a wise young lad to burp really loudly to break the ice, I obviously laughed because this kid was talented, it was a cracking burp which he's obviously worked hard to master, all the smiles broke out and mirth was created. All this attention however was blinding us to the oncoming traffic...
A bus stopped right before us so we jumped on.
The bus chucked us out at another junction 10 mins down the road. Both roads lead to Medellin, again the Thumb befriended the posturing youth who went on to persuade 2 moody guys in a bone rattler of a pick up to have us aboard.
Ended up in a bustling coastal town on the main strip around 10pm...the first hotel I saw was cheap and adequate. The thumb and 'tall Will' shared a double bed, kip was achieved quickly after quite an arduous day on the road.
A paltry 150km had been chalked off the board.
