Day 83 - The back of a pick up took us to the genuine outskirts of Mexico 'to big for words' City...finally green fields and open space could be seen ahead. 30 mins of Thumb time produced Our first ride...dropped us off at a junction which lead to some Aztec Pyramids, no time for a visit though...only time for some gorgeous Mexican roadside food, then a 4hr wait in the baking heat to shuffle us a paltry 100km up the road.
Twas a gas station in the middle of nowhere after waiting 6 hours where something remarkable happened. I have been laying into Caroline a little for not holding her Thumb aloft, I have recently given up hope with this, and stopped badgering her over the last few days...to my total shock she sauntered up to the edge of the road, time slowed down...'Surely not, she can't be'...the theme music from 2001 was playing in the mind...her hand slowly came out of her pocket, the arm began to stretch out, once fully extended her Thumb creeped out of a clenched fist, white doves flocked above, gongs were crashed, I was aghast and kept schtum, I didn't want to make her feel self conscious or draw any attention To this monumental occasion...sure enough the Magic of Caroline's Thumb Conjured an 1000km lift within 5 minutes. Thumbelina was born...about time like!
